A Common Place – Brandon Haffner
On-campus undergraduate journal/magazine – 3 credits
Editor-of-Chief, Editorial Assistant, Prose Editor, Poetry Editor

Help market and advertise the journal, edit submissions, format the documents, and assist in publishing that year’s edition

Collaborate with the literary team to negotiate writing styles, voices, and best suited messages and themes
-
Attend all meetings in a timely manner with prepared notes, support, and evidence for each discussion
-
Plan meetings, help with weekly tabling, and educate about the journal around campus by conducting class-visits

Web Manager

Maintaining an updated website including the masthead, and any technical issues

Web maintenance as needed

Posting articles and content as needed such as events, tabling, media, etc.

Experience with Word Press is highly preferred

Web Designer

Creating and updating logos as needed

Designing merchandise including totes, buttons, stickers, posters, and t-shirts

Formatting and laying out the final issue for print

Experience in Indesign and Adobe is highly preferred

Social Media Manager

Record events to post including tabling, meetings, and specialty occasions

Review, edit, and comment on weekly manuscripts; roughly 2 a week and/or an already published book to be read and reviewed

Attended weekly meetings to discuss and compare thoughts, feedback, and opinions on the previous assignments and manuscripts

Participated in training videos monthly for more information regarding the publication and marketing aspects of publication

River Siren Press

Specializes in science fiction and fantasy and is dedicated to uplifting diverse voices with a special emphasis on queer voices

Work together on the first decision and edits for magazine submissions (for “The Siren’s Song” literary magazine)

Read novel submissions and provide feedback

Gain editing experience on novels with guided feedback from senior editors
-
Gain proficiency/knowledge of publishing on KDP and Ingramspark platforms

Gain proficiency/knowledge of book design, cover design, book formatting, and book marketing
